World Food Day Celebration in the U.S. and Tokyo

We had a great turnout on October 14th, over 300 TFT supporters from 4 sites across the world saying "Itadakimasu!" (or "Bon Appetit!") in unison in celebration of World Food Day.  TFT also raised close to $3,000 across the three U.S. sites, enough to provide over 60 children with a warm lunch for an entire school year.  In addition to the evening event, a panel discussion was held during the daytime at George Mason University, featuring 4 experts on food and nutrition.

世界食料デーイベント in TOKYO/ World Food Day Event

10/16世界食料デーに合わせ、東京では青山一丁目のFIAT CAFEEで
「いただきます！」イベントを開催しました。

60名以上のTFTサポーターの皆さんが集まってくださいました。

最初にTFT代表の小暮とTFT-USA代表のDanから、
最新の活動状況や、世界食料デーキャンペーンの概要、
そして支援先のルワンダ バンダ村のご紹介をさせていただきました。

さらにTFT編著「世界をつなぐ あこがれ企業の社員食堂レシピ」の執筆リーダー・飯島から、
キッチンから始まる地球貢献というテーマでお話させていただきました。
「冷蔵庫のドアは、どこでもドア」という名言が！

そして全国各地のTFTの活動の盛り上がりについては、
夏に42日間の西日本自転車一周を成し遂げた上村さんからご紹介を。

その後は、11月上旬からJR池袋駅に開店予定のハッピーフクロウで
参加者全員で「いただきます！」をしました。

ちょうどこの時間には、日本全国・世界各地からの「いただきます！」ツイートも集まりました。

TFTの世界食料デーキャンペーン期間中にTFTへの寄付つき商品を出してくださる、
オイシックスさん、ファミリーマートさんの商品も展示させていただきました。

ファミリーマートさんの商品は10月25日から全国の店頭に並ぶ予定です。

オイシックスさんの、ヘルシー食生活応援！TFTレシピセット【3日分】と、
【TFTハロウィンシールつき】ぼっちゃんかぼちゃ　は好評発売中です。

最後は参加者全員で、寄せ書きを書いた布を持って、記念撮影をしました。
上村君が42日間かけて訪問した全国各地のサポーターの写真がアイロンプリントされています。

10月16日から始まったTFTの世界食料デーキャンペーン。
少しでも多くの方に、食について考え、行動していただくきっかけになればと願っています。

Last minute preparations in New York

TFT supporters in New York created a hand-made "Itadakimasu" sign and a great banner we'll be able to use in future events.  Thanks everyone!

Itadakimasu from UGANDA

TFT Uganda is really pleased to be a part of the World Food Day connecting with the rest of the world. This year’s World Food Day will be celebrated in Arua in Northwestern Uganda.

Like many parts of the world, Uganda also has a food shortage in most parts of the country with soaring food prices.

Looking at previous scenarios where poverty in Uganda has been a very huge problem
with more than half the country living below the poverty-line, the upswings in food prices are causing an even bigger threat to food security in the country.

We at TFT Uganda strongly commend the TFT concept that has made it possible for two different people from different parts of the world to share the same meal at the same time.

Credit and thanks go to Table for Two for their “Priceless and continued miraculous support” to many schools in Uganda that has seen an improvement on the health and education of School Children.

Message from Thailand

I had the great fortune of getting to know TABLE FOR TWO USA during my last semester of grad school. It did not take long for Fumi, Co-president of TFT USA, to convince me to join him on his mission to fight two nutrition related epidemics: obesity and hunger. The business model of TABLE FOR TWO is as simple as it is powerful and combined with the drive, passion and hands-on mentality of the social entrepreneurs behind TABLE FOR TWO USA, I can assure you that it is worth keeping an eye on it. Or even better: get involved and join this venture on such a meaningful day, the World Food Day 2011.

The Asian Development Bank to Participate in the TFT World Food Day Festivities!

The Asian Development Bank's headquarters in the Philippines will participate in the TABLE FOR TWO World Food Day celebrations with an event on October 17th (Mon)!  They will develop and serve a special TABLE FOR TWO menu item in their cafeteria, with a portion of the proceeds donated to TFT's recipient sites.

Although the event is in a separate location and at a different time, that's what TFT is all about.  We have one more participant at our table on World Food Day.

Getting ready for the event in New York!

The event is just two days away.  There always seems to be something that falls through, but at the same time there's always someone there to help!  We've received the generous support of many people in putting this together, including:

- The SIPA Food Group (a student group at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs)

- The Kitano Hotel, who has provided a gift certificate for a nice dinner for two that will be the raffle prize for the event.

- FUJI Catering, who will provide some delicious appetizers

- Ito En, who has generously provided tea for the event

Update from D.C.!

The D.C. Chapter of TFT is excited to announce that preparations for Itadakimasu Event are finally getting off the ground!

With the details finalized, we’re putting in our best effort to spread the word!

The event will be held on Friday, October 14 from 8:30 PM to 11 PM at the Wave Lounge&Club Room (1 minute walk from Courthouse Metro Station).  We will be serving delicious offerings from our local supporters, Rice Bar, Sushi Taro, Maneki Neko and Yosaku!

An admission fee of $15 will include food, t-shirts and a donation to schools in Africa.

If you have any acquaintances in Washington (city, not state), we would be grateful if you sent word on our behalf!  Everyone is welcome to come, but we ask that guests RSVP first by signing up here:

Hi from SF! 
It is only a week till the day of the event and we are all excited for the big day! 


As I've been promoting for the event, I realized that how much people actually want to get involved in a good cause.  San Francisco is what I call "the city of sustainability" so people are generally conscious about social/environmental issues. However, when I approach people and start talking about this event and Table For Two, they always get excited to know more about Table For Two. They might want to join the event for good food and drink/ meet people, but the best part is they can do it for a GOOD CAUSE, which makes them feel really good.. and we feel really good organizing this!


As you all know, the big news here in the Bay Area this week was the loss of Steve Jobs (Founder of Apple).


One of his quotes was,


"Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me.. Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful.. that's what matters to me."

Good news from Tokyo!

Masa Kogure, President of TFT International,  will be a one-day radio personality on Oct 10. "Listen to Africa" is the name of the program.
We are going to introduce children's voice in Rwanda, food crisis in the Horn of Africa.

DC支部ミーティング！

昨日、DC支部のイベントミーティングがありました！

イベント本番を２週間後に控え、まだ未定要素が多いので、２時間しっかり打ち合わせとなりました。

DC支部としては、いただきますイベントは初めての他の支部との合同イベントです。手探り状態ですが、どうにか形になるようにがんばります〜！

ちょっと長いですが、食べ物のありがたみを改めて噛みしめるには、やはり「いただきます」が最適。

日本特有の、食べ物への感謝の気持ちをこめた「いただきます」、この機会に世界に広げていきます！
